Steam Version Won't Launch

My friend bought Far Cry 2 off Steam, but it won't launch.

My friend bought Far Cry 2 off Steam, but whenever he tries launching it the splash screen comes up for a bit then goes away. Nothing else happens. He's reinstalled 3 times, third time deleting the Far Cry 2 folder. I don't have it on Steam, so idk if there's any other file he needs to delete to get it off his computer and reinstall completely. He also tried to force the resolution to start on 1024x768 in the command prompt.

I can't find anything to help him out on this, anybody have any ideas?

    I had that problem with cod4 try deleting the clientregistry.blob
